Shining Father
Shining Father
I remember going to the first in-person Satsang that Master Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj gave after the pandemic (or at least the first one that I was aware of). It was in Lisle, Illinois and I remember sitting in the quiet of the meditation hall, waiting for the Master to appear on the dias. And then, there He was.
And His beard was WHITE!!
Up until this time, my Spiritual Teacher’s beard had always been dark brown, lending Him a youthful, almost boyish appearance in comparison to the pictures that I had seen of the previous 3 white-bearded, great Masters of our time. And now, suddenly, He emerged from the long separation and unthinkable hardships of a global pandemic; no doubt, working off the incalculably painful karmas of His children upon His own human frame, and like Gandalf the Grey emerging as Gandalf the White, here He was!
All of these descriptions can not capture how, as an artist, seeing this glorious transformation affected me. I KNEW that I HAD to paint Him in His newly aquired beauty, But it took a while… I didn’t want to rush into this painting. And as time went by, His beard got a little whiter, and His mustache began to curl up at the tips accentuating His joyful laugh.
So this is my first painting of Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj with His white beard and I call it “Shining Father”.
